A Brief History of the Store
Poe Studio was born in Avondale in 2001, when Amanda Weld started Charleston's most unique shop for women and kids. The store started off with more of an emphasis on jewelry, women's fashion, and housewares. Then Amanda had little Henry and realized that there was nowhere in town to get the kind of clothes and toys she and her friends wanted for their kids - things that were funky and unique. The inventory expanded, and now the store carries a wide variety of handmade jewelry, artwork, clothes for grown-ups, and clothing, shoes and toys for the short crowd.
Liz Whitworth, the current owner, worked in the store for about a year before taking the reigns from Amanda in November 2007. Liz has been in Charleston for almost 15 years and lives in the Avondale area with her husband, Josh, and their two children: five-year-old Maisy and two-year-old John Radlee. She is always on the lookout for new exciting artists and products to expand the tiny little masterpiece that is Poe Studio.
Support Local Business
Many of the treasures you'll find in Poe were handcrafted by local artists and designers. Shopping at Poe supports their creative work and helps bring more unique goods to Charleston. Poe Studio actively participates with other businesses in the Avondale Point to bring more character, art, and inspiration to the neighborhood.
No Online Shop?
Because of the unique nature of our products, it is not possible for us to offer online shopping at this point. Many of our items are handmade and are one-of-a-kind, making it hard to guarantee the availability of any one item. However, if you see something that strikes your fancy or that you think your best friend or grandchild would just love, just give us a call at the store (843-573-4884) or send us an e-mail and we'll be happy to help you! If we don't have what you're looking for, we'll see what we can do about getting another one for you or help you pick out something else.
